Hanson Elementary is a Title I school located in Ramona, a thriving community in north inland San Diego County. We serve approximately 650 students in grades kindergarten through six. We have approximately 35 credentialed teachers and specialists to support our academic programs.
Although most county residents continue to think of Ramona as a semi-rural, agricultural community, the demographics of our town belie that historical descriptor. The outlying areas of Ramona continue to be an equestrian's paradise, with large acreages of groves and rangeland. A growing central Ramona is more reflective of a suburban or even urban neighborhood. We continue to respond to our students' needs by expanding our network of support for them and their families. Our current location, still in central Ramona, presents ample gifts in the form of nearby business partners, diversity, and intergenerational volunteers who help to make our school an extended family.
We take great pride in our new school. We are surrounded by the lovely hills that define our valley community, and students take pride of ownership in the generous landscaping and extensive raised planting areas in classroom patios. We are warmed by the many compliments we receive from parents and from outside agency personnel, who tell us that the moment they come into contact with our staff and our students they can truly feel the deep caring and respect that thrives on our campus. We have taken our Character Counts focus words to heart, and children live and learn with adults who actualize their responsibility to teach the whole child, and prepare each student to be a responsible citizen of character.
We have a vision of academic success for every child. Our decisions are driven by careful analysis of student data, and we are comfortable with a site based decision making process that considers the needs of the entire school. Hanson Elementary has a "global" perspective that has linked our teachers in a united vision.
